LUBRIZOL AND DEER PARK ELEMENTARY
Deer Park Elementary is fortunate to have the support and involvement
of Lubrizol as a community business partner. What follows is a description
of the many ways Lubrizol assists Deer Park Elementary in enriching
the curriculum, supporting students and staff, and as reaching
campus improvement goals.
School Improvement
Accelerated Schools
- DPE utilizes the Accelerated Schools process for site-based decision
making. Part of this process calls for the use of "cadres" to
conduct research and planning for school improvement. The task
is large, and there is little time within the regular school day
for those teachers to meet and adequately complete the work involved.
For many years Lubrizol has provided funds for substitute
teachers to provide release time for those cadre members to meet
and complete the steps necessary to fulfill their responsibilities.
- Planning Days
Our teachers do such a fantastic job instructionally because
they constantly review available data on all students. Lubrizol
provides substitutes for our teachers to have time to study
our data and review our curriculum ensuring we are providing
the best instructional program possible. This release time allows our teachers to differentiate the lesson they teach each day.
Curriculum
- Field Trips
We like to see that our students are informed about Lubrizol
and the function they serve within the industrial community. Each
year third graders are invited on a field trip to visit the
facility. As students move through our third grade, eventually
all students will have had this opportunity.
- Fabulous Fridays
"Fabulous Fridays" is a special enrichment curriculum we provide
to our students every other year. Lubrizol's staff are given
the opportunity to teach a Fabulous Friday course in an area
Our students love to see the Lubriol employees become part of there special days.
- Accelerated Reader Program
The students at DPE in grades 3-5 have the chance to read specific
books, take computerized tests, and they accumulate points based
on the number of items correct. The points are traded in for school
money which can then be used in the Accelerated Reader Store.
This is motivational in getting students to read more, which in
turn affects their achievement and success in school. Lubrizol
provides funds to assist the school in providing the items in
the store.
- "Exploration Station" Science Lab
DPE has an exciting science lab available to all students in
Kindergarten through 5th grade. The lab incorporates interesting
displays, hands-on exhibits, and powerful lessons. Lubrizol
periodically provides special science displays for the lab.
- Literacy Library
DPE's Literacy Library provides a variety of leveled books teachers choose from
to assist students. Lubrizol provides money to support the library so that
teachers have increased titles to choose from each year.
As you can see, we do many things through the assistance of The Lubrizol Corporation. Their continued interest in the success of DPE makes them a leader in "School Business" partnerships.
