Coaches Notes
Aldine
The Deer Park football program enjoyed much success last week versus Aldine. Every team came away with a victory with the exception of the freshmen Gold who lost a very hard fought game at the last minute. Here is a recap of the games played last week:
The freshmen Gold team fell to Aldine by the score of 28-20. The Gold team fell behind 20-6 before climbing back to tie the score at 20 all with very little time left in the game. However, Aldine was able to connect on a long TD pass and went for two to produce the final score. I was very proud of how our kids fought back in this game. MVP’s for the Gold were Eddie Trevino and Michael Arthur. Other players who played well were Nick Perez, Trey Ratliff, Cade Florrow, Parker DeShazo, Dakota Chandler and Nolan Camp.
The Gold team now has a 1-1 record for the season.
The freshmen Maroon team evened their record to 1-1 with a convincing 38-6 win over the Mustangs. The Maroon team was in complete control of this game from the beginning. The MVP’s for the Maroon were Demetrius Banks and Ryan Davis. Other notable performers were Clay DeLaGarza, Austin Rainer, Michael Escamilla, Steven Ermel, Casey Westmoreland, D.J. Lasua, Stephen Bonuz, Kenny Hasson, and Miguel Candeleria. Both freshmen teams will travel to Cy-Fair High School on Thursday to take on the Bobcats. Games will be at 5:00 and 7:00 pm.
The sophomore came away with a 14-6 victory last Thursday over Aldine to bring their record to 1-1. This was another hard fought game that was not decided until the very end. MVP’s for the Deer were Jerry Riley and Brett Vaughn. Other notable players were Jeremy Brockman, Zach Sharver, Alex Borjas, Brian Haygood, Angel Vargas, and Juan Villafana. The soph’s will host Cy-Fair this Thursday at 5:00 pm at Abshier Stadium.
The JV team came away with a 10-0 victory over the Mustangs to improve their record to 2-0 for the season. Jared Blocker and Craig Bridwell were named the game MVP’s and Jacob O’Neill was the special teams MVP. Other outstanding performances were turned in by Andrew Story, Dillon Vaughn, Ruben McCane, Garrett White, Nathaniel Aguilera, and Kyle Brown. This was the 2nd shutout for the JV defense this season. The JV squad will host Cy-Fair this Thursday at 7:00 in Abshier Stadium.
The Varsity improved their record to 2-0 with a 52-14 win over Aldine this past Friday night. I thought that we played very well in every phase of the game. Not only did we play well on offense and defense, we also won the kicking game battle which can be a difference maker in deciding who wins. Over the past two seasons, we are 9-0 when we win the kicking game and 1-3 when we do not. Here is a summary of our goals and awards for the Aldine game:
