Prewriting

This is when you explore possible topics, choose a topic, begin to gather information and organize details before you write your draft.  Before you can write you need to figure out what you are doing, and why.  This step will help you formulate what you want, have, and need to get your writing piece completed.

Through your prewriting you should be able to answer a few key questions...

1. What is your topic?

2. What/ Who is your audience?

3. What is your purpose for writing?  Why are you writing?

4. What impacts this purpose, topic, audience?

5. How do your experiences impact the situation?

6. What are your personal connections?  What do you already know?

What do you need to know more of?

7. How will you organize your ideas?
