Attention Parents-As we all know SJE is the place to be. However, if your child is ill it is better for them not to be at school. I know how important perfect attendance is for children but exposing other children to illnesses is just not worth it. Please, if your child is ill please follow these guidelines so we can be a healthy school.

1.Fever (100.4 degrees or greater) - students must be free of fever for 24 hours before returning. This also means that if the nurse has sent a child home with fever, the child should probably not return to school the next day. A visit to the doctor is also recommended so the child can get well soon.

2.Strep Throat - readmit after 24 hours from date antibiotic treatment has begun.

3.Head Lice - This can really be an itchy subject for everyone. All parents need to inspect their children regularly for head lice in order to keep this controlled. If a child has had head lice before, it is very important that the parents take responsibility to check their child's head even more often. Also, if your child has head lice, please contact the nurse so she can give helpful hints in the treatment. You really must be very aggressive with the treatment for about 3 - 4 weeks.Parents and children will get through this and hopefully the lice will not.

4.Vomiting or Diarrhea - If your child has had vomiting or diarrhea during the night or morning, please keep them at home.

5.Pink Eye - readmit after Doctor's treatment has begun.

6.Medications - There are many medications that need to be given to children on a daily basis. Therefore, if your child is on a once or twice a day medication it would be helpful if you administered it at home. Also, if your child may need a medication on an as needed basis, please send the medication in the original container with a note and the nurse can keep it in the clinic and administer it as needed for the school year.

Keeping each child well and happy here at SJE is always my priority. Parents, please feel free to contact me at any time about any questions or concerns you may have about your child.

Thanks,
Amy Parker, R.N.
