On Tuesday, January 15th, many students began in what turned out to be a much-heated competition for the BJH Spelling Bee Championship. In the first four rounds, there were between four and five students who misspelled words by one or two letters and sadly said goodbye to the competition. By round 5, the numbers had dwindled to four participants. When it came down to the last two competitors in round seven, there was a battle raging. Allyson Gross and Mark Figueroa labored back and forth word after word for eight more rounds. Winning the Spelling Bee was a moment each looked forward to - it was a grudge match of two friends from an earlier elementary bee. Finally, it was "Geronimo" that proved to be Mark's vilest foe, allowing Allyson to take the title of BJH Spelling Bee Champion.
