Welcome to the 2006-2007
School Year!
To get the most ot of school…you have to BE THERE! It’s a proven fact that kids who attend school regularly are more successful! Dabbs has terrific prizes that students with Perfect Attendance can win each nine weeks—the best prize is doing your best in class! Be at school everyday…and be on time!
We are delighted to welcome your child into our Dabbs family for the 2006-2007 school year! We invite you to be an active participant in the upcoming school year and an important part of your child’s success at Dabbs!
Curriculum
The curriculum at Dabbs Elementary is designed to teach the students "the basics and a whole lot more." The primary grades (K-2) emphasize literacy, knowing that a strong foundation in reading will lead to success in all areas. Students in grades 3-5 continue to recive a balanced curriculum in reading, writing, math, and the social sciences, with particular emphasis given to the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills).
History of Dabbs
Dabbs Elementary was built and ready for classes in 1977. The first group of students entered Dabbs in the fall of 1977, with a total enrollment of 601 students. The building was designed and built as an "open concept" building. Over the years, the "open concept" has been modified, with walls being added between grade levels.

Visitors Must Check In the Office And Receive a Visitors Pass
Dabbs Elementary is proud to have an "open door" policy for visitors and parents. We want parents to feel welcome and valued when they visit Dabbs. As a safety measure however, district policy requires all visitors to check in at the front office. Visitors must present a picture I.D. so that a visitor's badge can be issued before being allowed in other areas of the building.
DROP OFF AND PICK-UP PROCEDURES
In the Morning: Drop off all students in the side parking lots—K-2 on the east (kindergarten) side, and older children on the west side. NO VEHICLES should drop off children in the front of the building!
In the Afternoon: All students should be picked up on the east or west side of the building— the front is reserved for buses and daycare vehicles.
BE SURE TO READ THE PARKING LOT GUIDELINES AND SAFETY INFORMATION IN YOUR PACKET!
DABBS DRAGONS RECYCLE…EVERYTHING!
The three recycling containers located in our parking lot generate money for Dabbs each month based on the number of pounds collected…bring our newspapers, books, magazines, etc. and help us earn money for student rewards and activities!
Send used computer printer cartridges or old cell phones to school with your child and will turn your trash into cash for Dabbs! The physcial education teachers will continue to collect Boxtops for Education and Super Sports Club Labels. Send at least 10 labels and/or boxtops at a time with your child on Fridays to P.E.
Looking Out for Your Child Is Our #1 Priority!
Help Us Keep Your Child Safe…
- Students should only enter through the front of the building in the morning IF they are eating breakfast; otherwise, they should enter through the side doors.
- During the school day, students, visitors, and parents may only enter the building through the front doors—all side doors are locked
- New renovations mean new sign in procedures—you will not have access to any area of the building without first signing in at the front office and securing a visitor badge.
- No student may remain on the playground after school unless accompanied by a parent.
- If you see any unusual activity at Dabbs in the evenings or on weekends, report it to the police IMMEDIATELY!
