The Dabbs Elementary Student Council has a long-standing tradition of being a school and community service organization. Third, fourth, and fifth graders elect classroom representatives who meet regularly to develop projects that will benefit the school and the Deer Park community.? Student Council reps assist grandparents on Grandparents Day, hold an annual food drive for needy families, provide assistance to speakers on Career Day, and a variety of other activities. Teacher sponsors facilitate the students as they work on service projects and fundraisers. The Dabbs Student Council teaches civic responsibility and pride in working for the benefit of others. A penny saved is a penny earned. That's the philosophy of Dabbs students participating in Washington Mutual's School Savings program. Each Friday, students bring their cash (coins or dollars) to a Washington Mutual representative who deposits their money into their savings accounts.January 19, 2006 Dabbs Elementary is pleased and proud to be associated with the Deer Park High School PAL program. Each week, seniors from the high school visit several students for thirty minutes. They play games and become friends, each learning important lessons from the other. The PAL program helps youngsters develop self-confidence as they play and talk with these senior role-models. Seniors learn compassion and the importance of being a good influence on others. The PALS program is a definite win-win situation! |
