It's here!  The Houston Endowment Scholarship is now open!  It is due February 1, 2008 - so get started right now!  DPHS can submit up to 20 applicants and 5 WILL get $12,000 over four years.  You must supply all the information and fill out the form neatly.  Applications are in the counselor's office.

Attention:  The AXA Achievement Scholarship is over BUT, the AXA Achievement Community Scholarship is open until February 15, 2008.  If you have planned or done a project - FFA or Vational Bible School - any of these qualify for the Achievement scholarship. Are you or your parents a member of Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union?  If so, then you could qualify for a generous scholarship if you meet the requirements.  Two scholarships will be given to students going into the field of education, and one is open to any major.  Applications are available in the counselor's office.  Last date to turn in is February 22, 2008.

How does $2,500 sound to help with college?  Then get your application for this scholarship.  The USA/MAES Pre-Engineering Scholarship is for any minority student seeking a degree in the math, science, technology or engineering field.  MAES actually stands for Mexican American Engineers and Scientists, Inc.  Students with high skills in math and science are encouraged to apply.  Detailed applications are in the counselor's office or can be accessed at www.maeshouston.org  Deadline is February 28, 2008.

Texas Tech University and the College of Engineering is offering a generous scholarship to students with a high SAT - 1400+ who want to go into Engineering.  It is the Koh Family Scholarships.  Go to www.coe.ttu.edu/scholarships/koh to read qualifications and fill in online application. Angelo State University has the Carr Academic Scholarship Program for students with good academics who want the opportunity of a renewable scholarship.  You must have a minimum SAT of 1140 or a minimum ACT of 25 and be ranked in the top 15% of your class.  Go to www.angelo.edu to find information and application.

Baylor University has the Carr Collins Scholar Program for students who have a minimum score of 1250 on the SAT and a 28 on the ACT and is in the top 25% of the senior class.  You will need to follow through with all specific requirements, but the benefits are well worth the effort.  Go to www.baylor.edu/admissions/CarrPCollins for more info and look in counselor's office. It's here!  The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Metropolitan Scholarship is now open to students in the top 25% of the senior class.  You can pick up scholarship applications in the counselor's office or go to www.hlsr.com/ed/s/s .  You must submit your scholarship application to Mrs. White and a committee from DPHS selects EIGHT applicants to be sent in for consideration.  DPHS may ONLY submit eight students from here, so do your best!

Female Students!  Here is one just for you - The Society of Professional Women in Petroleum have a scholarship for you.  The scholarship covers tuition and fees and you do not have to be going into the Petroleum Engineering field.  BUT, you must type your application -so find a typewriter now!  An essay is required, too, so get started.  Applications are in the counselor's office and the due date is April 2, 2008.

Anyone who has cystic fibrosis and is a senior qualifies for this scholarship.   The John Buller Scholarship awards a minimum of $1,000. to a student wanting to study at a Texas college or university.  You must have your doctor vary you are under the care of a physician for cystic fibrosis.  You can go to www.greaterhoustoncommunityfoundation.org and print the application, or it is available in the counselor's office.

Deer Park Rotary scholarships are now available.  There are MANY to choose from:  4 - $500.  for an academic - if going to a 4 year university, a certificate scholarship 2 are being given at $2,500 maximum for any certificate program offered at community colleges (like San Jacinto College), and 2 scholarships at a maximum of $5,000 for the associate degree for community colleges. The deadline states the 1st of February, but it has been EXTENDED until MARCH 14, 2008.  Turn in to Mrs. White in back of library.

The Charles, Lela and Mary Slough Foundation Scholarship is offering a $5,000 scholarship for up to 5 years!  You may print your own copy at www.midland.edu/admissions/aid/forms/slough.pdf or get a copy in the counselor's office. You must fill out every item correctly and get all the required documenation done as stated.  You must be a Texas resident and a U.S. citizen and you must have a 3.0 point GPA.  You must turn in the completed packet to Mrs. Heidi White by March 14, 2008.

This is a scholarship open to any DPHS student who is the daughter, step-daughter, son, step-son, grandson or granddaugther of a veteran who served in the Armed Forces during WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Grenada, Lebanon, Panama, or Gulf War.  Pick up the American Legion Auxiliary General Scholarship form in the counselor's office.

The American Legion Auxiliary has the Past President's Parley Scholarship open to any DPHS student who is a the child, grandchild, or great grandchild of a veteran who served in the Armed Forces.  Pick up an application to check which dates of service.

Here is another scholarship sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary for the General Scholarship, and it is open to any student.  The student must also be  a direct descendent of a veteran who served in the Armed Forces during the dates listed on the application. The American Legion Auxiliary National President's Scholarship is the "Big One" which is only offered to seniors, and the student must be a child, grandchild, or great grandchild of a veteran who has served in the Armed Forces during the listed conflicts.  The senior must be able to document 50 hours of community service.  Applications are in the counselor's office.

The Society of Women Engineers has the Freshman (as in - freshmen in college) Scholarship available unitl February 25, 2008.   You must be a female senior who wants to major in science or the engineering field.  You can get the form in the counselor's office.

The American Association of Blacks in Energy is offering six $3,000 scholarships to senior students of minority hertiage, that is underserved in the college arena, this includes African-Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans. Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas is having a Sully's Super Saturday on February 16, 2008 for all students interested in attending Sul Ross.  This is an open house and a day filled with opportunities to explore the campus and meet the others.  Sul Ross is offering many scholarships to students who qualify.  Go to www.sulross.edu to check out the Super Saturday and applications for admission and grants.  March 1, 2008 is the scholarship application deadline.

The San Jacinto Day Foundation Scholarship is open until March 31, 2008.   Seniors who have  B average and have demonstrated interest in cultural, academic, or charitable organizations are eligible to apply.  The Foundation will award $1,500 to the student who wins by completing an essay on the topic of San Jacinto.  Pick up an application in the counselor's office for more details.

The Bay Area Chorus is offering the Annual Scholarship of $1000 for students who are in the top half of his/her class and are pursuing a major in vocal performance or music education.
