Kelly McCarthy Harrison
Ms. Harrison earned a bachelor’s degree in English from The University of Utah, and a master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
Prior to joining the faculty at Deer Park High School, she worked for more than 20 years as a manager of marketing and advertising for a number of Houston companies, including health care providers, non-profit organizations, electric and cogeneration utilities, cable television producers, and oil and gas companies. Most recently, she was the marketing and advertising manager for Lyondell Chemical Company where she coordinated the company's global marketing programs. She also has maintained her own writing business for more than 25 years.
Throughout her writing career, Ms. Harrison has earned more than 80 awards for her speeches, scripts, video programs, television commercials, newsletters and magazine feature articles. In 1996, she was named “Communicator of the Year” by the Houston Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).
In 2004, Ms. Harrison decided to leave her marketing and advertising career to share her love for literature, as well as to teach important writing skills to students.
