District Robotics Tournament
Results
Tuesday evening, the DPJH cafeteria transformed into a tournament venue as 7 robotics teams from across the district met to compete in the annual DPISD Robotics competition. Although the district tournament determines a 1st place winner at our district level, each junior high will send one team to compete in Austin on February 2 in the TCEA (Texas Computer Education Association) annual tournament.

The problem in this year’s competition is “The Threat of UneXploded Ordinances: Cleaning up landmines in a war-ravaged environment”.
Students had to build and program a robot that would sweep over a 4’ x 8’ field, gathering UXO’s and moving them to a “safe” area designated on the game board. After 6 matches, the Deer Park A team of Jonathan S. and Tucker M. remained undefeated and were awarded a trophy and 1st place ribbons.

DPJH will also send an “Inventions” team to Austin for competition. The team of B. Sharpless, M. Carter, M. Callas, and T. Black met the challenge of designing a robot that solves an existing problem of their choosing. Their robot was built and programmed to clean dry erase boards.
