About the Library

Mrs. Rossi

The 2007-2008 school year marks Mrs. Rossi's sixth year as librarian at DPJH. Books have enchanted her since she was introduced to characters like the very hungry caterpillar, Clifford, and that pokey little puppy. But as much as she loves discovering a good read for herself, she also enjoys seeing her students enrapt in tales unfolding on the pages of books they've checked out.

Some of Mrs. Rossi's Perennial Favorites:

  • To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  • The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom
  • Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor
  • The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
  • The Master Puppetteer by Katherine Paterson
  • The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi

Mrs. Rossi's Favorite Recent Reads:

  • Avalon High by Meg Cabot
  • New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
  • Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy by Gary Schmidt
  • The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Ms. Chilson

Ms. Chilson has worked at DPJH for almost ten years, the last three being in the library. She enjoys helping students choose a book for a project, for a fun read, or just for learning more about a certain topic.

As a mother, she knows the joy of reading a child's first books to him. Her children would listen to Go, Dog, Go! over and over again and fall asleep to Goodnight Moon. When they read their first words, she was ecstatic, offering high fives and words such as, "Way to go," and, "I'm so proud of you!" She still generously gives out those words of encouragement to DPJH students and hopes they take time to read at home to themselves or to someone else. That practice, along with a little praise, will go a long way in helping them build confidence in their reading skills.
