The clinic is equipped
with a nebulizer. On the days when your child needs neb treatments
at school please send the tubing, chamber, medication, saline, and
written instructions in a large ziploc with your child's name on it.
As we all know, Fairmont
Elementary is the place to be! However, if your child is ill, it
is better for him/her to stay home. I know how important perfect
attendance can be, but exposing other children to illnesses is not
worth the risk. If your child is ill, please follow these guidelines
so that we can maintain a healthy school environment.
Guidelines are as follows:
- Fever
(100.4 degrees or greater)-
student must be free of fever for 24 hours before returning to
school. This also means that if the nurse sends your child home
with fever over 100.4, the child should not return to school the
next day.
- Strep
throat - readmit
after 24hours from date antibiotic treatment has begun.
- Head
lice - readmit
when student is free of lice and nits. This can really be an itchy
subject for everyone. All parents need to inspect their children
regularly for head lice in order to keep this controlled. If a
child has had head lice before, it is very important that the
parents take responsibility to check their child’s head even more
often. Also, if your child has head lice, please contact the nurse
so she can give helpful hints in the treatment. You really must
be very aggressive with the treatment for about 3 - 4 weeks. Parents
and children will get through this and hopefully the lice will
not.
- Vomiting
or Diarrhea-
your child should stay at home if they have these symptoms during
the night or in the morning.
- Pink
eye (conjunctivitis)-
readmit with written doctor's statement.
- Guidelines
for Medication Administration at School
The school follows state guidelines and mandates with regard to
administering medications to students. Only the school district's
delegated employees will administer medication to students. A
written request from the parent, legal guardian, or other person
having legal control of the student must be submitted before the
child can receive medication at school. Forms are available for
your convenience in the clinic. The written request must state
the following: student's name, name of medication, date, time,
and dosage. A prescription medication must have a prescription
label and be submitted in the original container or a prescription
must be sent from the physician (in case of samples). Ask your
pharmacy for an additional labeled container to send part of the
medication to school with your child. This may be left at school
until the medication has been taken. All medications must be brought
to the clinic in the ORIGINAL CONTAINER clearly labeled as to
content, the student's name, and directions for time and dosage.
All medications must be FDA approved. No foreign medications will
be accepted. Students are not allowed to carry medications throughout
the day.
