From Coach Massey:

Well I guess I don't have to tell you that last week was very exciting for the football program here at Deer Park High School. We finished up the regular season with a great victory over LaPorte last Friday night. This game was exciting for several reasons. Obviously, playing LaPorte is always going to generate added excitement. There were also playoff implications involved with this game that would not only determine who would represent 23-5A in division II, but also who would be seeded higher. As you probably know, all we had to do to get in the playoffs was to win the game. However, if we wanted a higher seed, we had to win by 5 or more points. Obviously, we came away with what we wanted with a 20-14 victory over the Bulldogs. I thought defensively, we played one of our best games of the year. LaPorte has a very good offense that we were able to hold to 208 total yards. We were able to force 2 big turnovers in game which put our offense back on the field. Offensively, I felt that we did a great job of running the ball and controlling the clock which kept their offense on the sideline. We had 65 offensive snaps which is really the best defense that you can have. We do need to shore up our punt coverage this week. We cannot afford to let our opponents have cheap scores like that. We will work hard this week to correct our breakdowns in that area.

Our sub varsity teams had a lot of success against the Bulldogs as well.  Both Freshmen teams came out victorious this week as did the Sophomores. Overall, the Deer Park football program went 34-13 for the season, with more to come this week.

Our Varsity will have a rematch this Friday night versus the Clear Creek Wildcats. Creek finished the season in third place in district 24-5A. The game will be played at Pasadena Memorial Stadium on Friday at 7:00 pm. We will be sitting on the visitor's side of the stadium, but we will be wearing our maroon jerseys.

The football staff and players would like to thank everyone for their support last Friday night. I don't believe that I have seen our crowd that loud and excited. We certainly look forward to that same kind of atmosphere this Friday. Let's fill up the stands and be loud! GO DEER!
