Pirates have been around since boats and trading came into existence, and pirating still continues into our modern time. The Vikings were considered one of the first groups of pirates, but there have been Greek, Chinese, Roman, as well women pirates.
Through research, students will study about different pirates, their role in history, how they operated, where they operated, the ships they used and their weaponry.
Students will share their findings using different formats of multimedia, such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Inspiration and web pages.
You will be assigned to teams. From the following list, choose two pirates to research. Take notes and remember to include the URL where you found information.
| Edward Teach | Henry Morgan | Jean Lafitte | William Kidd | Grace O'Malley | Francis Drake |

Each student will create a diary of a voyage of seven days. Dates, daily weather and sea conditions should be included, as well as some incident or the routine business of the trip. Students may use PowerPoint to create their diary.
The groups will collaborate their research and projects to create a pirate newsletter, using Publisher.
Students will choose the best information from their projects to be added to the class web page.
