We would like to invite all San Jacinto Elementary fourth and fifth graders to join
us in our San Jacinto Elementary Choir called the San Jacs for the 2008-2009
choir season. We are very excited about this year and are ready to share the
joy of making music with you. Please check out our website for information and forms throughout the year at www.dpisd.org/~sje_music

1.  PARTICIPATION: At S.J.E. we believe that children should be afforded the opportunity to participate in EVERY activity offered. We are proud of our choir and are happy to offer you this opportunity to participate. If you choose to participate in choir, the attached contract must be signed and returned by Tues., Sept. 9, 2008.

2.  PERFORMANCE: We will be performing two programs this school year. The program dates are as follows:

                Christmas Program - - - - December 9, 2008                                         

3.  REHEARSALS: rehearsals will be every Tues. and Thurs. mornings, Sept. 16-Dec. 4 from 7:05-7:35am in the gym.   
                                 
Choir members will be allowed to go into the gym at 7:00 on rehearsal days and choir will begin promptly at 7:05. Any choir member arriving after 7:10 is considered tardy.

4. PARTS: A try-out for special parts in the Christmas program will be held according to this schedule in the gym:
Dance auditions Tues., Sept. 9 at 7:05am in the gym
Speaking part auditions on Wednesday, Sept. 10 from 2:45-3:45pm
Only students who have joined choir by turning in their contract may audition for a part.

5.  ATTENDANCE: We do not have much time to prepare our programs, so attendance at morning rehearsals is VERY important and mandatory. Choir attendance will be checked for every rehearsal. Attendance at the evening Christmas program is also mandatory.

There are 2 types of absences.
Excused absences: any absence that the music teacher deems reasonable and is accompanied by a note from the parent. Excessive absences will be addressed.
Unexcused absences: any absence unaccompanied by a note from parents or absences deemed unreasonable by the music teachers.

6.  UNIFORM FOR PERFORMANCES: Our choir uniform this year will be a signature choir shirt, blue jeans, dark socks and dark shoes. Each choir member must purchase a choir t-shirt. Choir members will be welcome to wear their choir shirts to all rehearsals and will be required for all performances.

7. CHOIR RULES: All San Jacinto school rules will apply during choir rehearsals and performances. Failure to follow school rules can result in choir membership termination.
 
8.  PROMPT AND PERFECT ATTENDANCE: A Prompt and Perfect Attendance award is given at the end of the year at the Awards Assembly. This award is for any choir member who has Prompt and Perfect Attendance for all rehearsals and the evening performance on Dec. 9. Excused absences do count against a Perfect Attendance award.

9.  CHOIR PARTY: Choir members with good attendance at morning rehearsals and the evening Christmas performance on Dec. 9 will be invited to a party at the end of the year. Place and time to be announced later.
