Frequently Asked Questions for Deer Park High School Softball
What class do I sign up for if I want to play softball?
The Off-Season Softball Class is offered a 7th period to students who do not participate in another sport. The class starts on the first day of school in August and are open to anyone interested in trying out for softball. All students that are wanting to tryout for softball are encouraged to participate in the Off-Season Softball Class. In order to participate on the Varsity Team, you must participate in the Off-Season Softball Class, unless you are involved in another sport.
What if I want to play softball and another sport?
Follow the guidelines of the other sport if their season starts before January. Once you have completed the season, transfer into the Off-Season Softball Class and tryout in January. If seasons coincide with each other, we will work out a schedule that works for everyone.
When are tryouts?
Tryouts are in January. Dates will be announced at the beginning of January at each campus. Anyone that would like to tryout for softball must have a completed physical and notify the coaching staff before they tryout.
What can I do to prepare for softball?
Attendance to Deer Park High School Softball Summer Camp is encouraged for incoming Freshmen and younger. Participation in STP (Summer Training Program) is encouraged for all athletes. All summer camps and programs can be found on the athletic website for the district and Booster Club. Softball players are encouraged to play on a fast-pitch softball team and on the Lady Deer Softball Booster Club Fall Ball Team that plays games on Mondays during the fall.
Do I need a physical?
All athletes need an Athletics Form Packet which includes a current physical every year. This paperwork can be found on the district website under Athletic Paperwork. It is preferred that physicals are complete in June of 2018 for the fall 2018 semester. The Athletics Form Packet can be dropped off at the Athletic Training Room which is located near the tennis courts at the South Campus.
Where does the Off-Season Softball Class meet for 7th period?
Class is at the South Campus every day. There is a shuttle bus that will provide transportation from the North Campus to the South Campus. Students can ride their respective buses home from South Campus.
