Tonight, the Deer Park ISD Board of Trustees officially named Stephen Harrell the District’s next superintendent.

Last month, Harrell was named the lone finalist for the position, and Board President Lynn Kirkpatrick said Trustees were enthusiastic about their decision. “We feel confident that the District will be in good hands with Mr. Harrell as its instructional leader,” he said.

Harrell is a longtime employee of the District with two decades of instructional and administrative leadership.  He currently serves as the District’s assistant superintendent for administration, a position he has held since 2013.

Harrell served as principal of Bonnette Junior High from 2008-13 and held a similar position at Deepwater Junior High from 2005-08.  He was an assistant principal at DWJH from 1999-2005 and worked as a science teacher and coach from 1989-1999.

In 1989, Harrell earned his bachelor of science degree from Sam Houston State University.  He received his master’s degree in educational management from the University of Houston Clear Lake in 1995.

Harrell, a 1985 Deer Park High School graduate, and his wife, a Pasadena ISD administrator, have two teenage daughters.

Current Superintendent Victor White announced his retirement in December.
