DPISD Book Bus headed to a stop near you this summer!

The Deer Park ISD Book Bus will deliver reading opportunities to our students this summer!  The Book Bus, a mobile library, will make weekly stops at many apartment complexes as well as at several elementary schools.  It remains at each stop for 45 minutes, giving children time to read or check out a book.

The bus contains age-appropriate books for students of all reading levels.  “We put books in the hands of anybody who gets on the bus!,” Parkwood Elementary Principal Debbie Yampey said.

The Book Bus is truly a team effort.  According to Yampey, the District’s Transportation Department donated a retired bus, which has been refurbished by the DPISD Maintenance team.  The project is funded by a grant from the Deer Park Education Foundation.

Donations of new or gently used books for the Book Bus can be dropped off at Parkwood Elementary during regular hours or at one of the scheduled Book Bus stops this summer.
