The Deer Park ISD Board of Trustees recognized two groups of students and their teachers and coaches during the Board's December meeting.
The first guests of the evening included representatives of the Deer Park High School-South Campus Lady Deer Varsity Volleyball Team, which completed the 2018 season as District 21-6A Champion and Bi District Champion. The team finished the season with a 30-13 record and went undefeated (14-0) in district play. Head Coach Cortni Cox was also recognized for being named the District Coach of the Year. The representatives from the team were:
Hannah Baker – 1st Team All-District
Adalyn Cable – 2nd Team All-District
Hope Hawthorne – 1st Team All-District and All-Academic
Mckenzie Morvant – 1st Team All District, District MVP, and All-Academic
The Board's final guests were members of the DPHS-SC Photography Team, who recently participated in the Association of Texas Photography Instructors (ATPI) Fall Contest. There were 7,420 entries from 99 schools, and several Deer Park students returned home with awards. They included:
Matthew Hart – Advanced Nature, Honorable Mention
Crystian Ortiz – Advanced Formal (Studio) Portrait, Honorable Mention
Gavin Ward – Advanced Student Life, Third Place; Advanced Sports Reaction, Honorable Mention
Yanira Roubi – Teacher, Faculty Single Image, Honorable Mention
Opening Exercises were presented by students from Bonnette Junior High and their principal, John Wegman. Seventh-grader Kayriel Flores offered the prayer, seventh-grader Stella Withrow led the pledge to the United States Flag, and eighth-grader Aaron Pacheco led the pledge to the Texas Flag.
