Even though they couldn’t gather in person during the last months of school, the members of the Deer Park High School Orchestra recently joined together virtually to record a moving version of “In the Company of Angels” by William Hofeldt.
According to DPHS Orchestra Director John Law, the project was created to keep his musicians engaged. It also provided a positive experience for students---particularly seniors---to remember amid the difficulties caused by COVID-19.
The process took about five weeks, during which students learned the music and recorded their individual parts to a conductor’s track provided by Law. Once he had each student’s recording, Law combined them into a single piece of music. “In the end, I would say the effort from everyone was completely worth it considering that we were creating something long-lasting, memorable, enjoyable and meaningful in the midst of a very difficult time,” he said.
