DEER PARK ISD CORONAVIRUS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

REVISED 03.30.20

In light of current events, Deer Park ISD has received a number of questions from parents regarding instruction, cancelations, and other topics.  The following FAQ was created to address those concerns by providing information as it becomes available.

WHEN WILL AT-HOME INSTRUCTION BEGIN?

Deer Park ISD’s at-home instructional program, eLearning, will begin on Monday, March 23.  That day, teachers will contact students and parents regarding how they can access instruction during the ongoing school closure.  Students in prekindergarten-fourth grade will use the SeeSaw learning management system, and students in fifth grade-12th grade will use the Canvas online platform.

WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS ALREADY RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM THE TEACHER?

In some cases, teachers have already contacted students regarding due dates for assignments that were made before spring break and the subsequent school cancelation.  Please follow directions as provided by the teacher.

HOW DO I GET IN TOUCH WITH MY CHILD’S TEACHER?

For instructional questions, students in grades 5-12 should use their District Outlook account to communicate with the teacher. Parents of students in grades PreK-4 should email the teacher by going to the campus website, clicking the “Faculty” tab, and clicking the “Email” button just beneath the teacher’s name and photograph.

WHO DO I CONTACT IF I HAVE A TECHNICAL ISSUE?

Students and parents should contact the teacher regarding technical issues. During regular business hours (8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday-Friday), parents or students can call 832-668-7450 for technical support.

ARE THERE FREE OPTIONS FOR ACCESSING THE INTERNET?

We understand that not everyone has access to the internet for the completion of eLearning. External hotspots are located outside each DPISD junior high and high school. We recommend parking as close to the building as possible to access hotspots.  District-issued devices will automatically log into the student wifi network, and students have already been issued a username and password.  Xfinity wifi hotspots throughout the area are also free at this time.

HOW WILL THE DISTRICT MEET THE NEEDS OF MY DISABLED CHILD?

ARD and 504 meetings will continue as scheduled beginning on March 23. Please be aware that these will be handled virtually, not in person. If you need to reschedule, please contact your campus principal or special education teacher. If your student is receiving accommodations for 504 or special education services, we will be working to meet those needs as we begin our transition to remote learning.

WHEN WILL IN-PERSON SCHOOL RESUME FOR STUDENTS?

At this point, we cannot provide a date when students will return to their school classrooms.  School is currently canceled through April 10.

IS THE DISTRICT OFFERING FREE MEALS FOR STUDENTS?

Deer Park ISD continues to provide free breakfast and lunch to children 18 years and under on weekdays through April 30 with the exception of Friday, April 10. All meal sites will be closed that day.

This program is considered an essential service, which means it is still open.
