Big Red is the enrichment program for advanced eighth graders at DPJH.  While the rest of the eighth grade has 1.5 class periods of math and 1.5 class periods of science, these eighth graders have one of each.  With the extra class period, BIG RED participants have the opportunity to select a “mini-course” every six weeks in which to participate for three days a week.  Fencing  
     Molecular Gastronomy Within these 18 class sessions, in small groups of approximately 8-10 students, students gain exposure to new cultures, learn unusual skills, or interact with real world issues, and work toward a goal of producing a culminating product to exhibit their new knowledge. 
     They work under the guidance of a DPJH faculty member or a guest teacher from the community with specialized skills.   DPJH piloted the program in the 2012-2013 school year.  In the 2013-2014 school year, participants were required to take the course "Smartypants and How To Wear Them" as one of their six selections during the year.Polynesian Dance & Culture
