High school student receives suspected hoax threat against DPHS-North Campus
REV 7:45 a.m. 10.04.17
The following message was sent to all high school parents this morning using the District's Skylert parent communication system:
Late last night, a parent sent a message informing the District that her child, a high school student, had received a threatening text message yesterday.
Police believe the threat was part of a hoax that has affected schools in Iowa and California, but, in an abundance of caution, we are sharing this information with all high school parents.
The message came from an unfamiliar number and threatened students at Deer Park High School-North Campus with violence today.
The District contacted the Deer Park Police Department, who confirmed that details about the threat indicated it was part of the hoax. For instance, the threat made it clear that the person who sent it had no idea that the school is a freshman campus.
As an added precaution, security has been increased at North Campus today.
Although this particular incident appears to be part of the hoax, I want to remind parents and students of the importance of reporting any suspicious behavior to the District or to police. Anonymous reports can be made by going to any DPISD campus website or to www.dpisd.org and clicking the Anonymous Alerts logo.
