High Quality Pre Kindergarten Family Engagement Plan 
 
 

The Deer Park ISD Early Childhood Center strives to provide a high quality instructional program in a safe and orderly environment.  We consider our partnership with our parents as one of the most important factors in ensuring student success.  Our Family Engagement Plan is designed to encourage high levels of family involvement and positive family attitudes towards education, encourage collaboration between our families and our school, and to promote the needs of early learners. 

1.    Facilitate family-to-family support:

·         Utilize WATCH D.O.G.S. on campus – WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is a one-of-a-kind father involvement program that works to support education and safety. 

·         Parent training opportunities – Love & Logic

·         Parent volunteers

·         Family Events

·         Provide informational meeting on Dual Language program for students entering Kindergarten

2.    Establish a network of community resources:

·         District Resource Center located at Deepwater Elementary

·         Partnership with Polliwog to provide training for area daycare centers

·         Provide health-related information – health clinics, free/low-cost immunizations

·         Sponsor Harris County Health Fair for Deepwater area schools

3.    Increase family participation in decision making:

·         Parent representative on Campus Improvement Committee

·         Invite parent participation on District Improvement Committee

·         Parent surveys following family events

·         Parent surveys to obtain information for areas of strengths/needs

4.    Equip families with tools to enhance and extend learning:

·         Children’s Museum partnership to provide Family Learning Events at ECC (Raise a Reader and Magnificent Math Moments)

·         Monthly ECC Newsletter

·         Parent training opportunities

·         Meet the Teacher to give parents opportunity to visit classroom before school begins

·         Parent Orientation at beginning of year to provide parents with information on expectations, curriculum, and classroom organization

·         Early Years Newsletter

·         Parent conferences

5.    Develop staff skills in evidence-based strategies/practices that support families in meeting their children’s learning benchmarks:

·         Staff development that targets early learners, families in crisis, family outreach activities

6.    Evaluate family engagement efforts and use evaluations for continuous improvement:

·         Parent and staff surveys to evaluate programs and events
