The Deer Park High School choir continues to excel with another year featuring six All-State selections. Students were selected to the 2017 All-State Choir and will perform at the annual Texas Music Educators Association Conference in San Antonio in February.

Sophomore Brendon B. (Bass 1) was selected to the Mixed Choir, junior Shane D. (Tenor 1) was selected to the Mixed Choir, senior Daisy G. (Soprano 1) was selected to the Treble Choir, junior Madeline G. (Soprano 1) was selected to the Mixed Choir, senior Faith S. (Alto 1) was selected to the Treble Choir, and senior Kayleigh T. (Alto 1) was selected to the Mixed Choir. Senior Miles D. (Bass 1) and junior Jimmy P. (Tenor 2) were named second alternates.

The students go through four rounds of auditions to reach the final state audition. Across the state, over 18,000 singers started the process with the top four percent being named to the All-State Choir.

“It is exciting to get six All-State Choir members,” said Barry Talley, DPISD executive director of fine arts. “There is so much competition around the state, but it is especially tough in our area, which includes schools from Katy, Cy-Fair, Clear Creek, Fort Bend, Friendswood, and The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.”
