A child is eligible for free prekindergarten if they are four years old on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year and meets one of the eight criteria listed below. Age is always calculated as of Sept. 1, of the current school year (for purposes of establishing eligibility). Therefore, a child is eligible for enrollment in prekindergarten if at least four years of age on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year and:

The prekindergarten curriculum focuses on the development of oral language and reading readiness skills which serve as a foundation for future academic success. When any Texas school district has 16 or more children who are identified as limited English proficient or as a member of a low-income family (qualifying for free/reduced lunch), that district is required by state law to offer a prekindergarten program to those identified students. The State of Texas does not provide for free public prekindergarten beyond these two categories of students. The Deer Park Early Childhood Center does not offer open enrollment. You must reside within the Deer Park ISD boundaries to attend the Early Childhood Center. Further questions can be directed to the Early Childhood Center at 832.668.8390.
