Communicable Disease Control

A student who has a contagious disease must be excluded from school until the danger of transmitting the disease to other students has passed.
 
24-Hour Rule
 

A child must be free of fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school. In addition, the following communicable disease rules apply for school attendance.

Communicable Disease Readmission Rules

Students excluded for reason of communicable disease will be readmitted by one or more of the following criteria, as determined by the local health authority:

  • Certificate of the attending physician or local health authority verifying that the student is no longer contagious

  • Exclusion for a period of time corresponding to the duration of the communicability of the disease, as established by the commissioner of health.
