Course Prerequisites: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II

Course Description: This course is a study of the basic algebra of solving and graphing linear equations, inequalities, and systems.  Other topics include formulas, literal equations, polynomials, integral exponents, factoring, basic operations of radicals, and rational expressions.  Algebraic and basic geometric applications are included.  This course promotes critical thinking and provides problem-solving techniques.

Grading Policy: All math classes at Deer Park High School follow the same grading policy:

Major grades – 60% - tests and projects

All tests will be announced ahead of time so that students are given enough time to prepare.

Minor grades – 40 % - classwork

Classwork is an important part of student learning. If students are to be successful in CP math, they must complete their Texas College Bridge assignments daily.

Retesting Policy: Students who fail a major assignment may reattempt it once to earn back up to half of the points they missed.

Before reattempting, students must attend tutorials to review and analyze their mistakes on the original assignment.

Academic Integrity:
Any student found to have cheated will receive a zero on the assignment. No make-up or retesting will be allowed in these cases.

Absent Students: Students must come in within  5 days to make up assignments missed. Students must attend Deer Time to access their Texas College Bridge assignments.

Tutorials: Tutorials will be offered before school each day from Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 to 8:25.

3. House Bill 1481: Electronic Device Policy
   Deer Park High School – South Campus

In compliance with House Bill 1481, students are prohibited from using personal communication devices during the instructional day. This includes:

•      Cell phones
•      Smartwatches
•      Earbuds and headphones
•      Tablets
•      Any device capable of texting, calling, recording, or accessing the internet

Effective Immediately, the following guidelines will be enforced at South Campus:

1. Device Use is Prohibited During School Hours

All personal communication devices must be powered off and stored away from the start of the school day until dismissal.

•      For most students, this timeframe is 8:22 a.m. to 3:55 p.m.
•      For students enrolled in a flex class, the school day begins at 7:15 a.m.
•      If a student has an off-period, he/she must still comply with the policy while on campus.

2. Devices May Not Be Carried on the Body

All devices must be turned off and placed inside the student’s backpack.
Backpacks, purses, and bags will be stored in a designated area within each classroom to help prevent access or distractions during instructional time.

If your student is uncomfortable leaving personal items in a classroom storage area due to concerns about theft, we recommend keeping those items at home.
Students who do not carry a bag may check in their devices at the front office at the beginning of the school day.
