we do have a zoom at 12:15 with see the succeed and I'll talk about that in a minute but we do need to I'm sure I'll Westmoreland the director of nursing and Cunningham co-chairs of the Deer Park ISD Shack so if you would we'll start here and then go around if you'll just introduce yourself because again we are recording the meeting so this is the way I get the information for the minute says who is hi my name is Kimora I'm the account manager for Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center how do I write mommy is got to deal with the Deer Park Fire Department I'm 7 years old and my parents have it too Scorpio I get home Peter Taylor I'm headed. Jim Davidson athletic trainer put on music what Junior High Cosby Sherdog District Courthouse in Edwardsville recorder okay well welcome today we is we don't have any action items today really for our meeting so it's kind of an informative meeting and I thought we'd focus a lot today on the the ways that we are being and teacher our kids and being now I can't think of the word but examples for our kids are students of the ways that we give and Christmas of courses we give a lot probably more at Christmas and we do other time but the ways that in our district we we example that we show our kids and we give them opportunities and Tracy I don't want to put you on the spot but I did here today that you were very instrumental in a way that you let our be giving and giving themselves do you mind just talking about that for a minute or the football booster High encourage do for each item you bring for the well that's good I know Cynthia Felix appreciate that so much and so does Denise Bachelor she made a point to tell me to please make sure that we that we thanked you for that because I mean not only does it gives them a chance to give back but I was actually looking online and I thought I want to look up some studies that you know the ways that giving you know is beneficial for your help but somebody already did it so I was happy about that and then have to look anything up so there are four ways that giving is good for your health it boost your happiness and overall life satisfaction there's actually something called the warm glow effect or the helpers high they call it a helpers high and it boost your serotonin which in turn boost your mood which can lead to a happier life they've done studies were people who are and you have to actually looking at the studies that you have to give with truly a selfless giving the people who who gave with a self-centered reasons the mortality rate was similar to those who didn't give it all but when they do this to do studies people who actively give and not just of their money but give of their time give their selves give even helping their neighbors rearrange their cars people who are selfless in that way actually live longer and report that they have happier lives it can actually it reduces stress when you are a giver and it a study by Carnegie Mellon University also showed that adults over the age of 50 who volunteered on a regular basis were less likely to develop high blood pressure than those who did not give so I think that's the spirit of giving definitely a 10 apply to our school health advisory Council and the way that we teach our kids to do that so I do have his room I need to log into at 12:15 but maybe a little background on c216 JC King is going to share some information with us on their organization which is a just a phenomenal group of people Harris County Public Health or the city of Houston actually Health Department with other organizations and they provide free Vision exams and glasses for kids who can't otherwise afford them we do have program the nurses have available vouchers like VSP vouchers but sometimes you can give them a voucher they lose it you give him another voucher they just don't and they still don't take their their students to the to the doctor Rita's exceed actually lets us put kids on a bus we get to get me we have there's a lot of permissions that forms that go with is but we put the kids on the bus take them on a field trip to the Heights Clinic and then there are they do full exam. Eye exams for the kids get to pick out their own frames with someone who helps them choose the right frame for their face and then when the glasses are ready to volunteers from sea to succeed come back to school and and give the glasses fit them to their face so it's it's a real Endeavor that they do and they can actually take 125 of our students we have an appointment scheduled is our very first time to participate a burrito pretty exciting so I wanted her to come and share a little bit about that and I'll go ahead and start resume I was real nervous she is a fish if she's stuff ijc good morning I'm good how are you okay so we're here at the school health advisory Council and there's a combination you know of parents and staff members here I kind of explained that we were participating for the first time this year and that you were going to share some information with everybody on your on your program okay let me turn the let me fix the volume real quick okay play occurred that gray okay let me know if you guys do y'all see my screen okay well good morning everyone sorry thank you for inviting me to speak today I'm so sorry that I couldn't make it out in person we are in the middle clinic so I like the kiddos still in the building, but I'm very happy to be here to talk about 3:15 some of these days I'm going to go through fairly quickly since I don't have much time but I will hit the important thing so you didn't expect in school by providing comprehensive eye exam we're two children who may not have access to the services of her whatever barriers are reasons that they need maybe maybe to the insurance and I still have a vehicle so we exist as that safety-net to help students connect Start program get them I can to get them glasses if needed we did a study a while back this this data is a little outdated but I still like very important program but I said he would give us a Houston is be back in 2015 showed that 8% of students who were previously a failing reading or math for now passing 52% of chronically absent students attended school at least 90% of the rest of the school year and 52% of students no further issues the rest of the school year so we can see that a simple tools such as glasses get into the glasses if they need help them do better in school academically disciplinary wine and with absenteeism our program started in 2012 so we are actually celebrating our just celebrated our tenth year we've seen a little over 92 that actually dial this year you sing 24/7 kids so that number at the bottom has jumped up to probably close if not at 95,000 kiddos since the Inception of the program and about 92% of the the kids who have come to our program and end up needing glasses so you can see that the majority of the kids that comes with you to succeed getting bashed prescription of course or cold when you took the hit the only song just under 1500 but we are back up to normal operations and we actually expect this year to hit to see all the 100,000 students were really excited to get so how does it work the process so basically what happens when a student fails your initial vision screening at school now that's kind of where we step in and work at the district level and directly with schools to get those two is connected to our program reporting to the state of Texas their place on an unresolved list and like I said we partner with would you guys too to get those students consented and then they come here on a field trip Style by us to our place located in the heights of Houston I don't see a license countries that were in an optometry extern student with an attending physician will do the full exam here on the side of alleged to pick out classes at the end and they have lunch here then they get back on the bus and go back to school so it's a really neat model because it eliminating barriers for parents having to take off driver students when I doctor Insurance barriers this is all done during the school day to wear he know no one has to miss anything so who's eligible we see students agency is 18 of 3 of 12 scale division 3 school that's our main prerequisite although we will see students who Weatherford by Nursery teacher we get that a lot where teacher says you do this do that just to not seeing they don't have class you know of 18 hard time even if the nurse has not had a chance to do the vision screening test we will still accept that student into the program if there's an obvious need of course I said no access to these resources so how would it who go about registering or distress they would contact our our scheduling these on while I have listed here or myself we will send out documentation to you to complete and ask for that fact will also send you a consent form I bet she go home with the student parent feels that I'll get that fax was and once we have all that information back you guys would schedule with Transportation which I know y'all are you have I think y'all are coming to us on February 27th if I'm not mistaken so probably don't know this already but these are what are formed looks like this law goes to the school nurse has completed its entirety this comes back to us the consent form here goes home of parents will a consent form to fix it traffic information hope history we asked him to keep the last page of Parts about the importance of getting eye exam yearly and just get some more information on on the exam process when this comes back to us we create a packet for the student and we tickets to life on their field trip day special accommodations needed identify those sasn accessing function with behavioral wheelchair-bound a diabetic student but we do ask that this is limited to five per day just because it's their exams to take longer if an ASN student or any for that matter is already seen by an optometrist are in a caribou. the app that you don't bring them we don't want to interfere with that care but if you are bringing anything students would like to still have just five of them and we see them in a single setting so we don't have them flow throughout the whole building like the rest of the students doing they need that quiet you know single space to have all of them done if your students wear glasses we asked if they bring her glasses to see you succeed there's a misconception that don't bring your glasses are you won't get new ones that's absolutely not the case this is really really helps us when you're able to read the prescription eyeglasses so it really helps us to get their new prescription and compare their change in Vision over time so we definitely definitely want to bring any glasses if they have looked at them I want you bringing your since we always will make sure to print students are at that's highlighted because we don't know how many times we get students who are not supposed to be here they don't have a consent form so it's unfortunate because I can't see them and the student supposed to be here still back at school so I know there's a lot of similar first and last name but we just want you to double and triple check that you're bringing that correct student we also want you to verify that all things are ages 6 and up we just can't accommodate a younger TX absolutely believe C students were at least six and then out to seniors in high school so basically 1st through 12th grade and of course any six students we would want me to ask that you keep 10 but I do like to hear okay when you guys come on site students will receive a packet of cream a pack of Menthol going to make sure they will get a name badge with all the information that we asked them to wear throughout the process and a big hug sticker. It'll put on the other side like you see a app that will identify with Slinkys from so we that's how we identify them to chaperone will get the same color stickers do it throughout the process if we need a chaperone for any reason we can easily find you all arrivals departures at lunch field trip we ask that you were here between basically 9 and to let us know if you need to depart earlier than that you do ask for 1210 chaperone ratio so if you bring 20 kids do you have to shop for it we want to make sure that every student has sack lunch when I come but we do want to instill leave all Poke items at school or on the bus water bottles anything like that we don't want any of the equipment to get ruined and they are moving stuff nautical process which is the most fun process for the students this is at the end when it gets actually take out there train we have a huge selection of beautiful frames for all different shapes sizes and styles boys and girls this I think you'd like for it to be done independently we want the students to make the decision on their own we have had students in the past want to FaceTime mom and dad or you don't send pictures but we really have found that when students get to pick out there pink RV on glasses that they tend to wear them or instead of mom saying no get those black ones or get those clear ones that will go with anything when they really feel that sense of Pride and they will wear them because they picked out something that they like the glasses typically are delivered back to the school for 8 weeks after they come through our Clinic once the student takes out the glasses day of we send us off to the lab gets prescription for the passenger side back to our building 10:30 Consolidated and make sure everything is correct in a prescription and then we'll call your school or our contact person at your District to schedule times for us to come out and actually dispenses glasses to The Sooner Mall there are tons of time where we find other gear is needed maybe there's an eye infection or there's a follow-up needed some time through the Urgent referrals that we have to speak to a parent right away lots of different things and it's really neat that were able to I just do things and help those parents connect other services outside of the scope of what we can provide here but just know that we do with our kind cat litter at the end of the week within a week of your visit and we asked the nurse said that referral letter home too so we are trying to go at every angle will call the parent we asked the nurse get the referral form out and then when are opticians, actually spent the glasses. you later will bring the referrals at that time too and we really want to make sure that Mom and Dad are Guardians get that referral information so that they can continue to care whatever is needed for that today Garden delivery that kind of running tests on that Tuesday do you like say 2 to 8 just to be safe and then a copy of the prescription will be given a dispensing too so that allows parents to go and get a second pair of glasses if they choose to do so just wanted to touch on coffee hope you succeed there has been ultimate in touch in the past the great programs and your kids get free glasses it is a great program please turn your kiddos but it's not free it's very very costly and this is just a general the show you that it's usually cost about $100 to $108 per student when we see it we that's email thinking of everything all of our equipment and all of our staff cause everything starts to end our Daily Kos Kira operated with over a proposed $11,000 we do go off site about 5 times a year to some of our larger districts Whiteside hair Pasadena Court bed he packed up our whole clinic in child welfare and instead of putting their fruit when we go outside our daily cost double more than doubled to nearly $24,000 a day and are you can see our cost per student also rise to about $120 per student so it is a very costly program we could not absolutely not do this without our funders I we are funded in part by the Houston Health Department but we do work closely with the Houston Health Foundation which is the Department's nonprofit arm and they do a lot of fundraising for us they find donors help with these costs and and I'm sharing this with you all to say that we really AMC 16 has been around for 10 years so it's out there it's knowing that you know we will take basically any kid and we will get them glasses he really asked that the school's out of the nurses and the school Personnel strive to get us the kids who really need our services and not just kids whose parents don't want to take him to the doctors to eat we really want to get them the neediest kitten 3122 billionaire service I'm okay so just know review what season 6 seed is and what it is not we are thinking that Vision program high-volume transmission Clinic public and privately funded program that provides a comprehensive exam and one pair of glasses at no cost any additional classes that are needed or if the student breaks the glasses or whatever the case of student parent would have to take us to where we are now Google home always want to make that connection in and get this to that to a medical home or medical Vision Care home and we do have feelings that are reaching students they come to us year after year that could be because you're truly isn't he there or that could be because you know they know that they can come back to us but we really would like to you know help remove those barriers and connect them to to a medical home if we can and when I go to National Vision Clinic so we don't take individual appointments. Don't bring their students and unless it's a very strange we work with this pool to get students here at in the map is the infiltrator not a free program without a place to get an extra pair of glasses we have had this happen a lot of our clinical team when they call to make we've actually have Karen sillas oh yeah we have a doctor we just have to make an extra card last is so that's what we're trying to avoid and we're not an optical repair shop so unfortunately we don't have the means or the tools to repair a broken glasses but we Channel play YouTube Berkeley are at Walmart that can maybe help with minor adjustments and beautiful photos of Cedar 16 and action these pictures I think we're all for my Pasadena Mission last year so lots of kiddos getting the glasses getting exams we have a lot of volunteers and again we could not do this work without the amount of volunteers that come and help us out slow and help us out with free screening and then these are just pictures of our celebration Army Aaron Houston declared see 60 days in Houston Texas on October 14th 2021 he gave us a sign for our formation and presented that to us at City Hall and we had a very extra large pair Glasses free I'm so just lots of fun we have a great time while we're you know helping these kiddos get a very much-needed tool for success I'm bugging you have two minutes to spare does anyone have any questions for me can you hear me JC I know I can impressed with your program and I don't think there was any questions you did such a great job telling us about it but we're real looking forward to to visiting you for our first time in February in the community is it's good for them to know so they can share their knowledge in and help parents understand what it is so thank you so much and the future of the program manager Dr Monica Mendes's are how much is for the program Kathy Parker the registration be who I'm sure you've worked with to get your your school schedule so if you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or any one of the ladies thank you so much thank you. Have a great day great we are looking forward to joining the program joining fee to succeed I'm a little nervous about taking a fish okay next on the agenda Peter the director of Child Nutrition going to do a nutrition update for us and if anybody gives in this District of their time and talents it's this group right here it's the nutrition Child Nutrition staff I'm always what you guys do for our kids send it so I just wanted to give a quick update of our programs for this school year obviously. challenging year for you know trying to get food trying to get labor and all these things so I'm just going to give you a quick update so since covid the past two years we've been offering free meals to all students and so this news year we went back to our old favorite do stand paid prices and our current eligibility district-wide reduce eligibility that 51% some of our challenges this year Horse supply chain you know we can't get cans for to make for drinks to sell to the kid we can't get ingredients to make certain products that we sell and we have a lot of unique products that are low sodium fat low sodium low pretty much everything and the manufacturers are dropping those they can't sell those anybody else but us and so there's a lot of things that they're dropping which has been kind of a challenge and if Fender delivery issues just this week are our Bread Company decided that they can no longer service at and so we're scrambling trying to find a new Bread Company in so that's another big issue with Pinot trying to find somebody that can service one part of a co-op with like 40 other districts in you know we need somebody to service all of us so we're we're working on that but we'll have it and I have certain things on certain days and I have to move some things around the menu but we'll still have food and we'll still do what we need to do and then of course our staff shortages were you know it's like a revolving door with us we interview and we have people come in and they I understand that you just don't go to the line and put food on the tray and then go home you know you have to sweep you have tomorrow if you have to let you know that there's a lot that goes into it that people just don't understand that it's just it's a very physical job and then of course you know food in labor cost in a boot Koster high for us just like for everybody else except for Halloween we did some blood oranges I don't know if y'all seen a blow horn before but you know we just try to do some fun things for the kids so they can eat  eat something different and kind of enjoy that day and then for national school lunch week we had a thing for each day you know aren't you glad you ate school lunch today it's not corny needs Schools lunch it's a magnificent day was going to tray for mac and cheese day and then don't be Alfredo trying something new can you passed out go on the menu so and then we had little giveaways you know that we do with the kids so I think we had there was some papaya that's like a little papaya, if you know something that we don't normally sir we try to do something a little bit different and then of course we do our thing getting lunch and pretty much everybody like that every year we do it for the the students and then of course we do have some catering for the teachers and staff so good so breakfast we start this year so far to him 3009 73 lunch about 450,000 and then Alucard equivalents which is it's it's like $3.50 for every Alucard dollar that we have that we convert that into a meal that 204,000 and our current participation is 30% breakfast 55% lunch and last year when we were serving free meals to everybody are present at the patient was about 33 and our lunch was about 62. braided like that didn't make too much of a difference obviously we like to have that hard to spacian but you know we we take what we have and hopefully everybody gets fed you know one way or the other from home or from us so that and then I just have a couple of pictures and you know all the the staff they do a really good job with dressing up and you know just trying to make it fun for students as they come through the line and then I don't know if you know her or not but she's at San Jacinto and she is amazing she does she makes videos she does announcements she's just she's always doing something for student look like a cupcake they do free birthday cupcakes once a month over at San Jacinto and she runs around and nobody I don't know if I don't know if it makes people mad because everybody gets all excited looking around but no why so but just have to do that and then and then we you know what South Campus mr. Davis always doing things for the teachers and stuff over there so these are the students we we catered Thanksgiving how much for all the staff over there and so these are students they are serving out that much to the teacher so and that's all I have sorry I know it's perfect thank you Michelle and Stephanie is she still here okay I know she's into different meeting so I should let you go first Stephanie Rayner the coordinator secondary education special education another group that gives amazing things to our kids they will I'll let her tell you about it but they put on a a transition fair that I thought you guys would be interested in seeing what happened a few weeks ago I made a short little video of some pictures so you can enjoy the students and I'll tell you a little bit about it so we sponsor or we partnered with Pasadena ISD as well as Texas Workforce and put on a student transition Expo I'm here at the education support center on October 18th and students from all Pasadena High School along with our students from Deer Park South Walters and deer crossing more in attendance I'm pretty worried about 200 students who attended the fair during the day until we call it the snap into the future if it we featured 18 different employers and several different resources for our students and students were able to visit various employ opportunities and some even conducted interviews on the spot we had three different workshops that the students also rotated throughout they feature some of our District staff Mike Burgess from the high school or an R8 Atlas Stone and Lynda Carter as well as a Texas Workforce Solution some of the areas that we talked about were appropriate interactions with law enforcement digital citizenship for our students and interview skills an incident was very successful and it will likely turn into an M an annual event I'm going to take about 10 months of planning to coordinate everybody but between us and we were able to combine resources to better benefit all of our students and so we appreciate the district support of and we were able to hold it in our building and we had lots of great sponsors provide food and resources and gift cards and some fun opportunity for our students while they learn skills to help Shuffle and hopefully gain further employment the kids enjoyed it they had five and a high schooler got to walk across Pasadena ISD students bust in so we were able to really combine our resources and the students asked really good questions and stayed engaged during this time we featured students who were more inclusion students as well as our life skills types students and our students are 18 plus so their students who are actively involved in finding employment questions for Stephanie on the try it was awesome I wish it was it was amazing to see that's it all that they did was absolutely amazing I wanted her because it was it was great so thank you thank you and next Jonathan Neil is going to talk about the gift of Christmas I got to send a reminder but we have that's with a barrels if your ear in the schools you'll see the barrels around so does is going to tell us what those barrels what they do with all those barrels and definitely thank you for having me cool pictures of fire trucks in their Barracks Play Fire trust this is my fifth year running to get the Christmas for the Deer Park fire department made my wife Tiffany actually chair it up and we're pretty much having control of it all but if y'all didn't know we're also haven't seen around town starting tonight too so I guess her to see trucks going around and out and about so kind of give you a brief overview of the history of the kids Al Workman Big Al started up back in 87 this guy's heart was huge and he did everything for the community he's doing just so he could help him out he basically passed on this tradition on two other Chiefs and captains and things like that eventually as kind of gotten to me and this will be my last year reading it and will pass it on to see starting next year they are located all kinds of the city of municipalities schools businesses so we got a pretty good support from everybody else around this is me and my wife leaving it up like I said I didn't really have a whole bunch of pictures and fire hydrants we do we are really big in the community we do everything from Fill the Boot we have parades with all of her old trucks and then also you can see in the schools quite often so Firebird fire prevention parade and everything like that we're always around and it's just another part that we that we do for free guys before we get started if you look at the picture on the left over barrels used to be wrapped and every single year we've come together and we would have a big wrapping party rap and rap rapping is finally I kind of got tired of those like it's just paint them in big solo, locate all around the community now but the nice thing about it is that these things are all the same so if y'all see what about you please help donate do something in there we took a lot of time to paint I think I've got 180 barrels and I could see the guys we were all sweating that day those pretty rough and and I drop off so we load up all these barrels and we we take them out to all the schools and businesses and for those who don't know this is an actual Chief Davis here he does smile believe it or not I really friendly guy you probably see more but yeah we have a good time a good group of guys that actually help take the barrels out this year we dropped off 155 at the different locations and then on those barrels used TV the information listed here pretty much kind of gives everybody the idea that you can drop off your toys and canned goods at this location and then we also do monetary donations can be mailed out to us as well and the girls the office will take that and they will have it deposited into our fund so that way we can help basically by these families a meal for Christmas too so we use that money to donate to us to go straight to them we come back we actually go through all the pickups these are some of the schools are firefighters always enjoyed going to see the kids and little kids like 10 or firefighters you know so we're always having to come out and do it Fire Marshal's Office is always involved and it once we get all the stuff from the schools are from the businesses with the Sorting begin and this is where the chaos really kind of starts is pretty organized here but have a good time when we're doing it but you'll see there's we have private 1015 tables full of toys on the left will have canned goods boxes cereal stuff on the right and we're just bringing their barrels and barrels barrels and at this point we really ask for the community Walnut Leaf we have school, man we have different clubs business is actually coming in a cyst that's my son up there and then the big one and then our captain son right there with him and they're helping each other song some things so and then there's more sorting stuff never ends for about a whole week straight we are there from 5 about we pick up stuff around 9 in the morning we don't finish till 5 about 9:10 at night even during 2020 we had covid-19 my wife stayed up there and we were the only ones allowed to use city ordinances to actually pretty box and get all these families together so we did I think it was a problem 75 families at that year and it was just me and her putting everything together it was long long nights lni this is a picture of our delivery day so we were getting ready to get everything set up this is right before we let all of our fire department members come in they actually shot for all the families we usually have the canned goods and stuff are capri box so they can just pick that up but they actually shot for the for the families of self and it gives the kids a good time to be able to get out and see what they want for Christmas as well a couple of dishes that we've done this year is that we basically provided trees pre-lit trees for these families as well. family needs one but her family can have one in their home so would you put that on a application for them to be able to fill out and if they choose they would like to have one I will give them one we're pretty good about trying to be very open with everybody on this and then lastly Mega DPISD so I'm about to feel out the plants that I came in here and I want to go back out and then after that we got to go to make the phone calls for the gifts of Christmas program we got to go start getting things set up and everything like that so all of our firefighters volunteer in an everything that we do top of that is just extra for our community in May 11th but doing it for a while ago thank you very much for that lastly the city's email system was down for the past week so we need to see if there was any pain nurses that they submitted for counselors and submitted one they won't know if it didn't go through or not so just when everything is Val okay that's it any questions if we want to help like with our time in for the Sorting is that when you need the most help I come in so we're going to start sorting Monday next week Monday through Thursday and we start at 6 p.m. through 8 p.m. and then we just go in there and we just start breaking things down the barrels out and play some Jose 711 East passing Boulevard is the fireman's Rec Hall located in the backfield back behind the station you're more welcome to just drive straight back there and like I say our doors are open at 6 p.m. and we're happy to happy so I had my wedding reception we appreciate her school nurses and counselors we work together quite a bit to get help our families in need at Christmas in the end of Duty special your Christmas and we couldn't do it without the firemen in their gift a Christmas and all that they do because you guys help our family so much and and you know whatever resources other resources but you guys are the most dependent always the most Dependable always went to go to First call Jordan from school we can hardly do this either so ESC because we were offered if we bought five items in we got a jeans day pass though if you haven't and that you had a thought about yet is a great way to fill your barrels if you will if you just so you know tell the people who get them five items and you can come in and get a jeans that's up to 3 we can only get one many of us brought in 15 items so it's great way to get your if you haven't yet but thank you thank you I appreciate it to you and you don't have to get up you don't want to just talk about blue Santa what does the police department dogs on the community I made a presentation I told you he's not told you you didn't have to do that funny because I'm a different graduate I went to and if anybody would have asked me in the past I do we have homeless kids if we have kids that don't eat at night out of and I felt for their part to do and cuz I didn't even know and then really when I started coming in I got special through the knowledge that she now has a relationship so we've been fortunate to have a fundraisers. I know you're up to it but if y'all could all stand for me I'm going to do like a whole thing and yeah if you I mean if you have blood in your body if you are not able to donate blood or never have please sit down how much is okay if you were if you have not given blood in the last year please sit down and then if you have not donated blood in the past two months please sit down it says now what's your left and right but there is no one standing so. still work and still if anyone was to get to know and like an accident I need blood you know we would hope that people like yourself what your heart doesn't really good job posting Community of Hope to Community Drive donate blood so they could be able to so I did have a price for the last person standing but it did not work. I've something else to give a price for so I am with a Gulf Coast Regional blood center and we are community-based blackpink so basically the blood that you get in her family members and friends and in our community so our mission is that we partner with the community to help save and sustain lives by providing us a supply of blood biotherapies and related related so this is a little bit about Gold Coast and we were establishing hunting in 1975 we provide units for over 170 Healthcare institutions such as children Memorial Hermann St Luke's at MD Anderson and we starve 26 count so here's a little bit of fat and the number of the number one reason why people don't donate is because they weren't usually like my director Kevin Shipley he actually had a I think I bet was I think a student and they were you know he basically said like it's because people don't have it was just like no it's because people are afraid of needles and everything and yes people do have a big fear of needles but what they what he did find whenever he went an  like you know a lot of people in the school with that if he I like people are more inclined to say yes and help people out so we try to encourage everyone to at least like you know and hopefully that person will say yes and we'll donate blood community 560 accounts with us so some accounts are in active yes we have not a hosted blood drives with them but we still have 50 accounts with y'all and y'all do a really good job with your blood drives and we are so grateful because don't like a breakdown of the community blood drives we have 28 business business account eight churches Dixon High School's so basically like Elementary Middle School three government government accounts 3 retail to health and 1 High School so we do we do tell all the blood donors that we cannot take and it's because it's at the a policy we cannot basically paper Play-Doh but we find ways around if I like giving out t-shirts and getting out you know just little knick-knacks and stuff just to say thank you and that we're grateful for you and then another another stat is every 2 seconds someone needs a blood transfusion and then anyone could need blood at any time so we like to tell people that because it could happen and then I have some stories here about about people that have people who are blood recipients who needed one so I'll read one story I have a couple Stephanie and Samuel blood donations save lives Stephanie a sophomore was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor this past February was diagnosed in November play 21 with leukemia and has been in remission 5th December 2021 his sister Trinity is a sophomore on campus both Stephanie and Samuel continue their medical treatment which have included multiple transfusion to Texas Children's Hospital you are their Heroes and their family are very grateful for your commit for Life donation for all patient and we just have more more stories about people who needed blood and how we were able to were you able to give it's done because of the community so here's some more sap one and seven people entering a hospital when he is going to need some blood and 4.5 million Americans will need a blood transfusion each year nearly 42 42000 blood components components are used by patients every day 62% of the United States population is eligible to donate blood but only about 3 and I'm here story but yeah in the room. This is the story about Jack Morris I am Dave Morgan Jim Morgan in September 2014 Jack was diagnosed with a l l leukemia so the clinic and the pediatrician says mom why is Jackie Robinson play Simply Red. call patiki eye okay perfect sorry sorry Irene I am Dave Morgan in September 2014, Jack was diagnosed with a l l leukemia or oldest son JV have a doctor's appointment that day so we went to the clinic and the PediaSure text my wife I said so as soon as she saw him coming in on you you know just thought maybe if you laid your eyes on and the pediatrician looked at JB and he said we're going to reschedule your appointment for another day we need to see Jackie m so they sent us down for blood work probably within an hour and a half he was sending us to st. Luke's emergency room I took we want it to be B and I said bull that was his cancer this one is about. Any probably won't live through the night where did she go Texas Children's Hospital you're still married. In the beginning of all this in shop on this and Jack would look on that has an exam I got this don't cry mom. He's always so compassionate it's funny when you're crying falling apart so we went through three and a half years of treatment and you never once it's higher. any concern in March he was going to bring the engine treatment. And the doctor called us back about 3 days 4 days later and said that is yes we back it wasn't definitive they ran a couple of more tests and then Jack was Dale considered to be a relapse patients which makes him even more in need of blood products has been so important or without the donations of the blood in the platelet product is that chemotherapy cannot start so you're not just affecting your it's life-saving it's it's amazing that people care enough to give of their time to donate their blood because everyday is Visa life in that life right now for us it's Jack so that was a story about Jack and we have many many patients like that that you know who are still undergoing treatment who and that's like why our mission is to save and sustain because we want to listing their life we had a we had another another father who came and talked about his daughter to us and he basically said that the blood products that you give that the community guess it help stay with his baby girl a little while longer cuz he knew that she was going to pass but it gave him those moment so that's it that's why we ask is very just is very important to Jess and it could they could help it could help a family and can help your neighbors they can help somebody that you know I didn't know. another sad one in every seven people will need blood at some point in their lives lives but only one in 20 will go and then this is just a sign of how you can commit for Life donate regular Lily connect with us and spread the word and we do have a donor Rewards program so basically whenever you donate donate blood you get some point and then those points can accumulate any food you would be able to get some gift cards some different things that are on our last day what is another another story about Ethan and Evelyn and then this is just go thank you just saying thank you to giving Ethan life and this is this is Ethan again and we just call call the people the patients that we do give blood blood recipient and then this is our high school are high school scholarship program we really balibar high schoolers because they loved reply to get it's just seen that if you donated High School you keep it going whenever you get older so we really encourage encourage our high schooler do you donate blood and we increased our our scholarship programs at 6 now then we're giving away $41,000 scholarship to 5001 $10,000 scholarship we're also giving up giving Red chords to any any senior who donates why during their senior year so we seen that these we students don't play about the red Court do they even call us to make sure that we're bringing them in so yes we do have a ride and it's very unsuccessful in the students Ortega and this is just the blood drive that we're going to be having on the 8th from 1:30 to 5 p.m. and we really need you like like I said during the holidays it is very hard because people are traveling so we try to just ask that. You know anyone who can come out and donate it would really help us it would really help us a lot is it or give away so we're giving away maybe things that you know people missed out on on the previous month so we're giving a lot of way and do nurses get to choose from which items do we have I believe we have hoodies we also have a full over different things it's just a mix and y'all just got to choose between and then we have partnered with be a resource and basically be a resource is organization who do basically supports and give help to children in the foster care and CPS system and basically we will have will have a bin at the door I can drive still on the donor coach will have a bed are we can collect collect toys as well as if you know if you don't want to give it away we accept little messages that you wanted to send to the kids just to support and it's a it's a volunteer thing we got together and then we saw out the the toys and it's a whole big party and it's really amazing but beer resource does so many great things for the community and they do it all throughout Harris and then best if you'd like to schedule blood drive this is my contact information as well as my partner Danielle and and if I have any questions I also will here if you want if you're going to want to have a blood drive at your building give me a call and I can also contact and help you set it up as a bunch of them and so I'll definitely be there I'll be at your drive I'll help you if you want to do that it's real runs itself you don't have to do much but but advertise it but I'll be glad to help than my wants to know if you're if you if you can't donate or or it's another way you can help you know to organize one so and I'm I do have a prior so I will ask how many units do you think that we need a day to service the Houston area and the throw in the surrounding areas of Houston that would be great though any other takers I got again I've got a gap 5000 less than 45 is it a thousand do this everyday to awesome well thank you so much and if any of y'all are interested you haven't signed up just their walk-ins or well tomorrow it's the mobile unit right out here another thing to announce we are having free flu shots and Vac saccoman vaccines if you haven't got the by vaillant back by variant vaccine or if you would like a free flu shot for you or anyone in your family it's there going to be here on Friday all day so walk-ins are welcome for that as well also and there's no you don't have to have a driver's license or anything like that you can just come in and get your flu shot or if anybody wants to share that with their family absolutely do that cuz they'll be here all day on Friday the last thing is I got a little mini grant for some vaping targets from the Texas school safety center button Jersey two-for-one kids a tour de Miguel maybe a Coffee Bean or they come in express that they face and maybe has gum and fidget Cube but I just thought it was on your way out today if you would just grab this and workers here if you would just grab a few would be if maybe and right just a positive message for the kids on the bag so that when they give him and show him that someone cared enough to write a message you know if you just want to ride you can do this or if you have words that you like my kids will be going to kids it doesn't do that before you leave I appreciate it and grab some more lunch and I think I really appreciate it 1:05 that's not the 150 not too bad as .
